Season 2025 Ranked Changes
Riot Games has introduced several changes to the ranked system for Season 2025. Here's everything you need to know.
New Rank Distribution
The rank distribution has been adjusted to better reflect player skill:
- Iron: 5% of players (down from 7%)
- Bronze: 20% of players
- Silver: 25% of players
- Gold: 23% of players
- Platinum: 15% of players
- Emerald: 7% of players (new tier)
- Diamond: 4% of players
- Master+: 1% of players
Emerald Tier Adjustments
The Emerald tier, introduced in Season 2024, has been fine-tuned for Season 2025. The MMR range has been narrowed to reduce overlap with Diamond.
Placement Matches
New changes to placement matches:
- Reduced from 10 to 5 placement matches
- Less volatile MMR swings during placements
- Better carryover from previous season MMR
LP Gains Normalization
Riot has improved the LP gains system to be more consistent. Players should see less dramatic swings in LP gains throughout the season.
Demotion Protection
New demotion protection systems:
- 3-game shield when reaching a new tier
- Extended protection for Master+ players
- Decay prevention for active players
MMR Reset Softening
The season reset is now "softer," meaning high-ranked players won't drop as far. This reduces the chaos at the start of each season.
Split System Updates
Season 2025 has 3 splits instead of 2:
- Split 1: January - April
- Split 2: May - August
- Split 3: September - December
Rewards Changes
New ranked rewards include split-specific skins, chromas, and icons. You must reach Gold+ in at least 2 splits to receive the season's Victorious skin.
How This Affects You
Use our MMR calculator to see where you stand in the new distribution. The changes mean climbing might feel slightly different, but the fundamentals remain the same: win more, improve your MMR, climb higher.
